FSA Regulation for the majority of the travel sector began on the 1st of January 2009 prior to that the only travel insurance that was regulated was stand alone insurance sold away from a holiday or trip.

Regulation has meant a number of key differences in the way in which travel insurance is sold; some have found the transition simple and others slightly more problematic indeed many organisations have decided that giving up selling insurance was the only way forward. So what are the options for Agents and Tour Operators?

1. Become fully authorised under the FSA in your own right (only a handful of firms chose this option)
2. Become an Appointed Representative of an Independent Network - ITC
3. Become an Appointed Representative of a Product Provider
4. Become an Introducer Appointed Representative of a Product Provider
5. Stop Selling insurance all together
